This week, I reviewed Churrasco’s in Sugar Land, where we had a delicious meal.
In other news, I read this week on CultureMap about a new veggie delivery service that brings farm-fresh vegetables right to your door! Greenling does deliver in Fort Bend, and I just might be curious enough to give it a try. If you’ve already tried it, please let me know what you thought!
For those of you interested in making your own pasta, Williams-Sonoma in First Colony Mall will hold a class on making ravioli. The class is free and takes place on February 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
The Sweet Boutique, Sugar Land Town Square’s popular bakery, has opened a second location at La Centerra in Katy.
Meanwhile, Mint Spice Bistro in Sugar Land has closed and Gaston Bistro has opened in its place. Gaston Bistro features menu items from its sister busines, Dinners4Me.
There are a couple of food-related charity events coming up:
The Exchange Club of Sugar Land’s 26th Annual Spaghetti Cook-Off is Friday, February 22nd from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Fluor Corporation cafeteria. This is a fun, family-friendly event in which teams composed local law enforcement, fire, and emergency services personnel cook up their best spaghetti sauce. A panel of judges decides who gets bragging rights for the upcoming year, and guests are free to try whichever sauce(s) they choose. There is a cake walk, face painting and kids activities, as well as silent and live auctions. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door; kids 12 and under are free.
Empty Bowls, a fundraiser to benefit East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry (a local hunger relief organization), will take place on April 5 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Safari Texas Ranch in Richmond. Tickets are only $25 per person and can be purchased online. Guests will be served a simple meal of soup and bread, in recognition and support of those in our community who don’t have enough to eat. The fun part is that each of the bowls has been hand painted and will be sold at the end of the evening to raise money.
Finally, it’s time to start getting ready for the 10th Annual Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair, which takes place April 24-28th. Tickets are on sale now for most of the events. The signature events include The Grand Tasting at the Marriott Sugar Land Town Square, where dozens of chefs and vintners will provide tasting portions of their food and wine for guests to sample, the Sip & Stroll, where guests get to sample food and wine in a more casual atmosphere (this was formerly held in Sienna Plantation, but moved to The Imperial last year), and the Bistro Brunch, which features live music and brunch offerings with an international flair. Individual tickets for these 3 events range from $50 to $125, but you can purchase a VIP ticket, which gets you into all 3 events, for $200. Other events include a festival kickoff dinner, beverage seminars, and a bartender challenge. Stay tuned to Fort Bend Food Blog for comprehensive coverage!
