Fort Bend Food News — Week of August 19, 2012

Coal Vines Pizza

This week Fort Bend Food Blog visited Nizam’s Kitchen in Missouri City and Coal Vines in Sugar Land for two really great meals.

In other news…

Eating…Our Words found its way outside the Loop for a visit to Guru Burgers & Crepes.  Speaking of Guru, they are hosting a Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co. craft beer dinner tomorrow — Monday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m.  The $50 price gets you a four-course meal with beer pairings and a free Buffalo Bayou Brewing glass.  Full details and contact information for reservations are on the Guru Facebook page.

Kafe Bakery in Richmond recently had their ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The bakery is located at 2035 FM 359.

Houston Restaurant Weeks, which was scheduled for August 1-31 this year, has now been extended through Labor Day weekend.  Check out the HRW menus at Azuma on the Lake, Aura, Blu, Churrasco’s, Perry’s, Post Oak Grill, and Ray’s Grill in the Fort Bend area.  A low price ($20 lunch and $35 dinner) gets you a great 2-3 course meal, and a portion of the price goes to the Houston Food Bank.  Note that not all restaurants offer an HRW lunch menu.  Check the HRW website for menus and more details.

The Fort Bend Herald reports the impending opening of a new McDonald’s in Richmond.  This location will feature the chain’s new, modern design but the decor will reflect the area’s Texas heritage.

I had a chance to get over to Vineyard on the Square in Sugar Land yesterday, and it has indeed closed down.  Somewhat eerily, however, their website remains up and running, and they are posting regularly on Facebook.  [Cue the Twilight Zone music here…]

And finally, rumor has it…that California-based chain In-n-Out Burger is coming to Sugar Land, near Constellation Field.  If you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing an In-n-Out burger, you don’t know what you’re missing!  The company denies that any development activity is happening in our neck of the woods, but I’ll keep you updated on any further news.
